Sunday Funday!

By the time you read this post, I will be in Europe!  I pre-composed it and scheduled it to post later lol.  But at the time of writing, I actually haven't even packed yet (flight is tomorrow).  I hate packing!  I kept checking the weather and it looks like it will be rainy most of the time I'm away.  I have no good clothes or shoes for the rain, since LA gets rain about 3 days a year.  So we'll see how that goes, but it makes packing especially tough.  I decided to take a last minute trip to visit some friends and get away from for a while!  It's been too long since I've traveled internationally.  But I'll be back by next weekend, so a short trip.  =)  I'm sure I'll have a lot to say about it later.

So knowing that I only had about 4 days this week before flying out, I had to make sure that I went to the gym as often as I could!  Especially considering I plan to eat a lot of yummy food (and not care).  I ended up going 4 times, so yay! I was also able to go back to my morning workout schedule, since I didn't have to be at work as early as last week.

Monday 8/11
What I did:  Lower body weights.

What I wore:  Lululemon Ta Ta Topper tank (kinda forgot about this one for a long time!) with Beyond Yoga Gathered Legging in dusk, and Nike Free Bionics.

As to and from, I wore the Splits59 Venus jacket:

Tuesday 8/12
What I did:  I finished up the last of my pilates class package I bought!  Great class too, I gotta buy more and actually use them more often.

What I wore:  Lorna Jane Sunrise tank in blueberry/lilac with Lululemon free to be bra in white under it and Lululemon wunder reversible under crops in bruised berry (wore them with the black side out, obviously).

Wednesday 8/13
What I did:  I knew I wouldn't have enough time to do all 5 of my weight workouts, so I kind of combined 2 of them - I worked on shoulder/tri/back/bi lol.  Basically whole upper body.  Then I did 30 minutes of cardio intervals on the gauntlet.

What I wore:  Lululemon Scoop Me Up tank in caspian blue, Beyond Yoga Hyper Stripe Leggings (folded in to wear like crops), and Nike Free 5.0 TR Fit 4 shoes.

Lululemon Swiftly LS in aquamarine/beach blanket blue as to and from:

Friday 8/15
What I did:  Worked out before my flight!  Lower body weights + about 30 minutes of intervals on the treadmill.

Alright, gotta run to the airport now!  I hope I'll be able to post a couple times while traveling, but we'll see!

Quest Protein Chips!

Hi everyone!  I'm going on vacation for the next 10 days, so I wanted to make this quick post about my newest find before I go.  It actually makes me quite excited lol.  I've been buying Questbars for a while - they are these all natural ingredient protein bars with high fiber!  (My favorite flavors are raspberry white chocolate and cookies 'n cream.)  But when I went on their site to order a replenishment last week, I saw that Quest now make protein chips!  I couldn't resist and ordered a box of the sea salt flavor.  They also come in cheddar & sour cream, and BBQ flavors.

They are actually not bad at all!  They are crunchy and taste like they are made of potato!  Each bag has 120 calories only, with 21g of protein, 1.5g of fat, and 5g of carbs!  Sodium is also pretty decent at 190mg.  Not bad at all!  Totally great for a snack and perfect for traveling.  I'm happy I got these right before my trip!  I can't wait to try out the other two flavors.  =)

Body Weight... Then and Now

Today's post is going to be a bit different than usual.  Partly because I haven't bought anything lately to write about... lol!  But seriously, I have been receiving many emails from different readers asking me for my body stats to pinpoint where they think they should set their goals at.  First of all, I am very honored that you feel that way!  But I've noticed a trend that I wanted to address.  One of the most common questions I get is how much I weigh.  I find this question hard to answer, because I weigh about the same today as I did a year and 4 months ago when I first started to really strength train with heavier weights.

You've probably read my "weight loss journey" on top of this page where I described how I used to look quite different.  I had lost weight fast by doing a lot of cardio and eating very little.  Then I went up and down for years, although never went quite as high as where I started.  Back in April 2013, I was at a point where I had kind of let myself go a little more than usual and I had noticed my weight creeping up and my clothes not fitting as well anymore.  That was when I knew I had to do something.  These pictures were taken right when I started training with my coach, and I weighed 133 pounds that day (I'm 5'5).  That was actually a light day for me.  Around that time, I had been seeing the numbers more in the 135-137 range.  So I could still hide my extra flab while wearing clothes, but it's a different story in a bathing suit!

I started lifting weights a lot more seriously (at least 4-5 days per week) while doing moderate cardio (3-4 days of 30 min per week).  I started seeing my body getting tighter and my weight dropped to around 126-128 for a good portion of last year.  I also went down a size in clothing.  But I was eating around 1550 calories a day and I just wasn't getting the muscle definition that I wanted.  My goal was always to add more muscle rather than being skinny.  So about 2 months ago, my coach and I decided to move me into the "building phase" and upped my calories to 2000 per day, with 220g of carbs!  I kept training hard, and I immediately started seeing more definition.  My weight did creep up slowly which was expected.  These pictures were taken last month, and I was the exact same weight as a year and 4 months ago - 133 pounds.  This is the range I'm hovering nowadays - 130-133 (sometimes higher if I have a cheat meal the day before).

So, as you can see, I have definitely leaned out and gotten toned up, and yet I weigh exactly the same!  Here are the two pictures side by side for better comparison:

Ok so I learned to pose a little better too from all the progress pictures I've had to take!  =P  But, you get the idea.

This is why it's hard for me to tell you just a number to aim for.  I think it's more important that you judge by how your clothes fit than what the scale says.  Usually when you gain muscle, your shoulders will get wider in relation to your waist, and you may also get a bigger and perkier butt and nicer quads!  More importantly, you will feel stronger and just awesome!

Don't get me wrong though, I do think the scale is a useful tool to have.  I weigh myself every single day, first thing in the morning.  Then I log them in a spreadsheet with an explanation if it fluctuates more than a pound or so.  I like to keep track of how different types of food I ate the day before affects my body.  I also like to keep track of trends throughout the month.  Sometimes I make graphs with my data points.  I know, I'm a little crazy... lol!  I think the more you learn about how your body reacts, the better you can control what you should be eating and doing to look and feel your best.  But don't let the scale be the determining factor.  Trust me, I know it's hard!  I still get scared when I see the numbers go up, but it's just a battle I think I will likely have for a very long time to come.

Anyway, so there you have it.  You've probably heard all of this before, but I thought sharing pictures might be easier to see, and I hope this helps a little!

Sunday Funday!

Happy Sunday everyone!  My mom was in town this weekend, so things were a little hectic for me.  She brought me my birthday present, which is this little robotic vacuum lol.  I have no idea why she did that because I have a nice Dyson vacuum (which I probably don't use as often as I should).  It's kinda fun to watch this little robot running around.  It even knows to return to its charging station after it's done!  How cute.

This week was a bit different for me.  I had to be at work around 6 am, so I couldn't make it to the gym beforehand since my gym only opens at 5.  I usually get to the gym before 5:15 am and I can barely make it out of there by 7 am (that's when I'm supposed to be at work lol).  I hadn't been to the gym after work in the longest time, and I was reminded of why I hated it!  There are some real annoying guys there that I hadn't seen and had totally forgotten about for months.  Like dude #1 is super awkward and tries to talk to me every time he sees me... but just stands there in silence after "hi".  I feel kind of bad for him, but omg go away if you have nothing to say lol!  Dude #2 is kind of similar but way worse... he does nothing but walking in front of wherever I am while trying to make eye contact, and sometimes he even steals my bench with my sweaty towel on it when I happen to walk away for a minute.  Seriously, he's gross.  Dude #3 wants to workout with me... when he is not there with his girlfriend.  He stalks me on Instagram too.  Then there are random other ones who like to tell me what's going on in their lives even though I don't even know them, or asking me things about my life that I have no interest in sharing.  Of course, there are also lots of co-workers that go to the same gym after work, who I really would rather not see or be seen by.  So, one week of going to the gym after work has completely reminded me of why it's worth it to get up at 4 am for the gym.  The people who are always there in mornings are a lot less... sociable (or socially-challenged?).

Aside from the hiccup in my schedule, my workouts this week were also quite different from normal.  I had bought some pilates classes which are expiring soon, so I took 2 pilates classes this week.  I also had a training session with one of my gym trainers who I am thinking of training with a couple times a month.  I like his style of high intensity circuit work.  It's so different to have someone else there pushing you as well!

Oh yeah, also no "to and from"s this week since I went to the gym after work - it's been almost 90 degrees everyday here.  The only time that I sort of need a "to and from" piece is when I leave the house at 4:30 am.

Monday 8/4
What I did:  Lower body weights, followed by 30 minutes of cardio intervals on the gauntlet.

What I wore:  Lululemon 105 F Singlet in bruised berry with Lorna Jane Portia bra in hyper lime under.  Athleta Chaturanga capri in purple plaid, and Nike Free Bionics in purple/volt.

This was super matchy!  The LJ bra and Nike shoe laces are identical in color...

Tuesday 8/5
What I did:  Pilates class - it was such a tough one too!  Worked on my glutes a lot.

What I wore:  Lorna Jane Feline tank in viola (I think this is my favorite tank I've bought in a long time) with Lorna Jane Somersault bra under it.  Lululemon Wunder Groove crops and I wore my printed Nike Free 3.0s to class.

Wednesday 8/6
What I did:  Glute/Back/Bi workout.

Straps of the bra is the same shade as the tank too.  =)

Thursday 8/7 - Rest

Friday 8/8
What I did:  Training session with the trainer.  We did 4 sets of high intensity circuit work.  Then I threw in another 30 minutes of cardio afterwards.

Saturday 8/9 - Rest day, had to pick up mom in the morning.

Sunday 8/10
What I did:  Pilates class again.

Wow these posts are so short when I don't have any to and from outfits!  And work outfits for that matter too.  But anyway... I hope you all had a great weekend, and a great week to come!

Vince Leather Scuba Jacket in Black!

I got a second Vince leather jacket!  I love the first one I got in charcoal (though really looks olive in person) so much that I decided I NEEDED it in black!  I didn't really want to shell out the $995 + tax price tag for it though, so I kept an watchful eye on ebay.  They get listed there once in a while, and normally sell for around 1/3 - 1/2 of retail new with tag.  So I finally got one!  It's not the paper leather version like my charcoal one.  It's thicker and a little more substantial.  The leather has a bit more sheen, but still on the matte side.  Otherwise the design is the same though.  This is the one I got.  I love it!

Yes, I do realize all my jackets are basically the same style - kind of cropped, fitted moto style with the side zipper thing going on.  What can I say... I just love it I guess!  The Vince jacket is kind of like the leather version of my new favorite Caslon cardigans.  :)

The jacket I got on ebay had a slight tear at the end of the zipper pull though, which I of course knew when I bid on it.  After I received it, I took it to Nordstrom to see if they could get it fixed, and they did... for only $10!  They didn't ask for receipt or any kind of proof that it was purchased there.  I happily paid the $10 and have no complaints.  They glued the leather as well as put some reinforcement stitchings on top.  It is the little "X" next to the zipper pull.  You can barely see it in person:

I actually tried this exact jacket on at Nordstrom before I got it.  So I knew what size to get!  It's the same as my other one - XS.  I tried S too, which is way too loose for this style and looks frumpy on me.  This is obviously a shorter jacket and not really meant to be worn in super cold weather.

Here it is on me:

I like how this leather is thicker so there's more structure to it.  I can actually pop the collar and it would stay up haha.

The pockets are pretty big on this jacket too.

Ribbed side panels which cover the under side of the sleeves too:

I would never wear it like this, but this is what it looks like completely zipped up:

So happy I have now acquired this jacket!  I wish it wasn't 90 degrees here so I can wear it now lol!

Two More Caslon Cardigans!

So after getting the black Caslon Drape Neck Zip Cardigan from the anniversary sale, I fell so in love with it that I wear it all the time now!  I am so glad that I ordered two more colors right away with the anniversary sale price.  It is now back up to $68 but I still think that's a damn good price for it.  I got a medium heather grey color and a tan color called morel.

Same as the black one, I got these two in size XS.  I think the grey one might fit a tiny bit looser, but otherwise they are identical.  I love all of them.  I still think I would wear the black one the most, only because it's black.  But it's good to have options.  They are so comfy and I can seriously wear them anywhere and with anything!

Here they are on me...

Half zipped:

And here's the morel one:

I realized that I actually never posted a picture of what it looks like completely zipped to the top, but it kind of creates a cowl neck when worn that way.  It's not bad at all for a different look.

I seriously think this cardigan is my best purchase in a long time.  Three for $135!  =D
