Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM Bag

I was walking around the Promenade in Santa Monica on Friday night primarily because I had a doctor's appointment around there in the afternoon and wanted to wait until traffic died down to drive home.  I took a stroll into the Louis Vuitton store and came out 15 min later with the Neverfull GM!

Update:  I forgot to post this picture, but I love the LV box the purse comes in.  Love how durable it is and how nice it looks!  Tip:  If you are gonna buy an expensive purse, always ask for a box even if it's not a gift.  That way you can preserve the purse inside when not using.  Plus you just spent tons of $$$ for some leather work so you might as well milk it.  =)

Did not mean to spend the money, but purses are my downfall.  And shoes too.  I'm like Carey Bradshaw from Sex and the City.  I limit myself to one high end purse a year or so though.  Otherwise I'd go broke like her!  Hehe.

Well as far as LV purses go, I really think the Neverfull is priced most economical.  It's their signature purse, and the small one is only $730.  I believe that's the cheapest purse they carry.  And it's still bigger than a lot of purses they have that are in the thousands.  Their stuff never goes on sale, so that's as cheap as it gets.  Unless you get a knock off I guess.  But I don't really think knock offs are good investments since they are made cheaply and will not last.  One reason LV has been so successful is because their quality is really top notch.  They also stand behind their product, and will fix things for you for a small fee years down the road.  It's not a bad investment.  Plus they can iron on or paint on your initials for you on your purse any time you want, and that's a cute detail!

I was deciding between the MM (medium size) and GM (large).  Price wise, they are not that different - the MM is $775 and GM is $820.  The MM is only a little shorter than the GM, and a few inches narrower.  It measures at 12.6" x 11.4" x 6.7" while the GM measures at 15.7" x 13" x 7.9".  I eventually went with the GM because even though it's very big, it will be more versatile, and will be great to travel with too.  I tend to carry a lot of stuff with me all the time - like now I carry my books with me so I can read on my train rides to and from work.  So it works well for me.  Also, if I don't want it to be too big, I can cinch in the sides and it becomes much smaller.  It takes in, I would say about 2.5 inches on each side.  Like this:

So I figured might as well spend $45 more and get the big one.  I still have 14 days to change my mind, and I do go back and forth sometimes, but I think I made the right decision.  For a bag this style, I think I'd want it to be big and hold lots of stuff.  If I want a small and dainty bag, I'll just go buy another one. I do wish it had more inner pockets though.  Maybe I'm used to all the millions of pockets in my Lulu bags, so one zipper pocket on the inside, though a big one, just doesn't seem enough!

I walked out of the store under $1000 after taxes and everything.  Not too bad!  I kinda had a little buyers remorse right afterwards though when I walked across the street into Tiffany to try on rings for fun.  And realized that I could have bought a Tiffany wedding band for a few hundred bucks more that will last forever.  Hmm... puts things in perspective!  Well the one I liked best was more like $3500 but still - the purse was a good chunk of that.  Oh well!  I blame it on the materialistic world.  =)

  1. LV is a good investment...I use a Speedy that I bought like six years ago and it still looks brand new. Worth the extra money in my opinion. It's nice to treat yourself once in awhile as well!

  2. Hi, my friend has this in the GM size as her diaper bag. I asked her for her opinion when I was looking for a diaper bag and she said the straps dug into her shoulder too much (not sure how much books you will be carrying). I ended up getting the Totally GM. This is my first LV bag. I like the ability to zip up the top and the straps are thicker. I also have a Lulu Effortless tote in case I wanted to switch it up. Just a thought! Funny you mention bag budget - I have the same rule but haven't bought a nice bag in 4-5 years. Its nice to treat oneself once in a while!

  4. Gorgeous bag!! Absolutely beautiful. I am sure you will have that for years. LV never goes out of style.

Sort of off topic, but I know what you mean about carrying books, which is why hubby bought me a Sony E-Reader - I can carry lots of books yet not feel the weight of them :) I am a voracious reader!

  5. i have the mm and had a hard time deciding between the two sizes like you. however, i'm petite (5'3) and felt the mm worked well for my size. i've used it for travel, as a diaper bag and now just an everyday bag for the gym as well as for all the crap i carry around for my toddlers. it's just a great everyday bag for everything! also, i'm amazed by how much stuff i can carry in it! i love it! i have several large LV and Chanel bags but this is the one i reach for most often. you won't regret it!

  6. @anon 8:22 am - I have the speedy too! I don't really use it anymore though cuz I was really in need of a large bag. But it's still super cute sitting in my closet! Hehe

@Anon 11:01 am - I don't carry heavy books so it hasn't been too bad. I can def see how the thin straps could hurt the shoulder when carrying a heavy load though... But I just really like this style best! Though a zipper and outer pockets would be very nice...

@Becky - thanks! I so would get an equivalent but unfortunately my study material right now only comes in good old paperback. Lol.

@Anon 9:34 pm - good to know you still love the bag! I too am amazed at how much stuff I can put in it. Today I had my makeup, wallet, one 8/11 book and 2 small notebooks, and my left over lunch and a thick hoodie all stuffed in it! LOL! It was awesome! I see ladies use this as a gym bag and now I understand. I could fit my shoes and change of clothes and toiletries in it no prob.

  7. Btw, anon @ 11:01 am, it sounds like you have the perfect excuse to splurge on another gorgeous bag since you've way overstayed your rule! I'm impressed by your self control though! I must learn from you. Hahaha

  9. Hi,

I just saw a video on youtube this week about how you could wear this bag inside out too, to get a different look (well I think it's this bag).

Here's the link if you want to take a look:

  10. I LOVE LV. I've had my bag the Petite Bucket for 4 years and it's in great shape. Last year I had the bottom leather replaced because it had rubbed against my jeans over the years and made a slight hole. I really can't believe how much it has gone up in price during the down economy. I bought my bag for $800 4 years ago and now it's $1160, that is a huge price increase. My next bag might be the Batignalles Horizontal. Last year I was going to buy it and it was about $800 now it $930.

  11. @momof5: I find that when I keep going back for something, that means that I really want it (vs. something I completely forget about) and it's worth the splurge, so I say get it!

@Anon: OMG so cute! I love it turned inside out! Wow I never would have thought. That's pretty cool! I have to try that some time. Thanks for sharing!

@Kim: Yeah, LV is prob one of a few places that actually increased their price during this economy huh? Well people are still buying, so good for them I guess! I like the Batignalles Horizontal too, it's very classy looking. Looks like it will hold a lot of stuff too! By the way, I've never got anything fixed there, did you have a pretty good experience with them?

  12. wow, they really up the price on this bag! Especially the small one. I remember getting it the weekend it came out quite a while ago and it was $500. I can't believe the it's now $730! I think each size just was $100 more on each so at least the large ones didn't go up as much. It's a great purse I love it but hate that my straps are now more brown from the oils on our skin from our hands and and the summer on my shoulder. That would be my only thing I dislike about the light colored straps.

  13. The service was great when I had my bag repaired. I think I paid $125 for the bottom leather band. They said it would take I think 4 weeks (I was so bummed to be without my main bag for that long) but it only took maybe 10 -14 days. It was really fast compared to what they quoted and they did a fantastic job.

  14. @Anon: I know what you mean... but I guess that happens to every purse and it's just an unavoidable part of life? Lol... I wonder if you can clean it off with some leather cleaner like what they use to clean leather shoes? I don't know... I like how the light color looks right now. I don't want it to oxidize and turn into the honey brown color!

@Kim: Good to know! That's not bad price to get it fixed, if it's going to extend the life of your bag for another 5 years at least. Very good deal. I'm thinking about taking mine back to the store and get my initials hot ironed on, but I might wait till after I get married cuz then I'll have different initials!

  15. Please don't post links to your fake designer purse site here. Wow I can't believe your site claims the items are authentic when they are clearly fake - not even good looking fakes. Isn't that illegal?

  16. SWEET LINK I can now get you a pair of Louboutin shoes for only 219 who knew!

  17. I found this while doing a search for the Neverfull bag. SO, 8 months later...do you still love it? I have a Kate Spade diaper bag, and a Kate Spade handbag and I want a big bag I can use as both. Without many inner pockets, are you finding yourself digging around for things?

    Cute site, btw!

  18. Hi Ashley Beth, I actually do still love this bag! I use it pretty much everyday because it is my only bag that I can fit everything - even gym clothes and shoes! Yes, I do use it as a gym bag from time to time because I take the train to work so I don't want to take a duffel bag with me. It's such a cute bag and the quality is exceptional. I don't baby it at all and so far, no problems! There is only one inner pocket and it's rather large, so yes I do sometimes have to dig around to find stuff. But I also have lots of random loose things in there... usually to find something like my phone or keys it doesn't take long. I think it was a great investment for sure!

  19. Terrible purses. You're better off moving to Chanel or Gucci. They make quality goods. Louis Vuitton has a factory provider in China that makes a large portion of the purse. They then ship them elsewhere for assembly and a few components just to avoid having to include the "Made In China" label requirement. At one time this was a great brand. No longer. They are vinyl with a tiny amount of leather. You are buying a name with no substance to back it.

  21. I purchased Neverfull GM Damier to use as a diaper bag. It's great, lots of room for toys, diapers, etc. Plus it will make for a great vintage bag for our little girl when she is older.

  22. Don't get me wrong I love a good bag, my collection includes Prada, Ferragamo, Gucci, Fendi, Burberry, etc... but no bag is better than a Tiffany ring... what were you thinking?? LOL j/k. Well, sorta. Especially when most LV signature bags are predominantly vinylized fabric with less than 15% of the bag actual leather (basically, seams and straps) so give that some thought. Though I hope the bag brings you many years of enjoyment, next time go for the ring! lol
