Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator

I got the Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator as a random little gift the other day from my fiance's parents.

It's one of those things that claims to magically aerate your wine as you pour it into your glass, vs. aerating it for like an hour beforehand.  I was skeptical, but it really works!  LOL!

I could taste a big difference immediately in the wine I normally drink.  I don't really aerate my wine at all, because I don't buy expensive wine and I feel that is not worth the effort.  But this aerator totally brings out the fruity flavor of my wine and makes it taste way smoother!  I couldn't believe it.

Yesterday I even did a blind tasting.  My finace poured 2 glasses, one using this aerator and one without.  I could immediately tell which was which!  This comes from someone who can't even tell the difference between a Coke and a Pepsi.  So that is something!  The glass that was poured without using the aerator was a lot more harsh and one-dimensional tasting.  If this works on my $5 bottle, it must be magic!

So this is how you do it, very simple.  All you have to do is hold it above your glass and pour through it into the glass.  You just have to be careful not to pour too fast because the little "bowl" of the aerator is small and it will overflow if poured too fast.

So the wine goes through the aerator which breaks up the wine to let oxygen in and let the flavor out.  It makes this faint screeching sound at the same time.  Lol.  Very weird, but works!  I have only tried it with my Trader Joe's Venetian Moon, which is a savignon blanc.  But I'm going to the store tonight to get some red wine so I can try it out too!

It comes with a stand and looks so cute sitting on my kitchen counter!

I think if you are an occasional (or even a serious) wine drinker like me, and you don't want to go through the trouble of aerating your wine, this thing is definitely your solution!  It really brings out the flavor of your wine and gives it more depth.  It's only $25 on Amazon too, and makes your cheap wine taste more expensive!  My fiance's parents said that they got it as a present from their friend, and they liked it so much that they bought like 5 of them to send to different people!

The only bad thing is that I now have to be careful not to drink too much wine!  It's definitely not helping me achieve my six-pack-abs resolution.  Lol.

  3. @Becky, I bought mine on a trip to Napa Valley, and I love it too, but I have seen it in Ontario, I think at the Bay?

  4. I have personally done taste test with the Vinturi and Franmara aerators and they work well but do I use the aerator with every bottle of red wine, no I don't. Wine drinkers all have different pallets and taste buds so what I perceive to be too tannic may be just perfect for someone else.
