Second Lululemon Ebb to Street Tank - Heathered Black

I went to Lululemon yesterday to exchange my plum cool racerback since I just got the plum Ebb to Street tank last week and love it!  I am really trying to not have too many similar styles in similar colors.  There are many ways I can justify why I should have both the plum cool racerback and Ebb to Street tank, but in the end they are really not all that different looking to someone who is not a lulu addict.

I couldn't really find anything at the store to exchange it for, and my plum cool racerback was a couple days past the return period.  I guess they probably would have let me return it anyway, but I figured they would definitely let me exchange for something else... especially something else that costs more.  So I got a second Ebb to Street tank, in heathered black.  I actually wanted to at least see the angel wing one, but they still didn't have it in yet.  I need more neutral colored tops, so I figured heathered black would be good since it's not quite black - it looks like a dark charcoal.

I bought it in the same size as my plum one, which is my true to size - 4.  I did not try it on until I got home.  I actually found that the heathered black fits slightly tighter than the heathered plum one.  It's not a huge difference, but I feel more neck pull from the straps on the black one.  So I might keep the tag on it for a while and see if I will exchange it for yet something else.

Here's an interesting thing that happened right after I bought this tank - one of my friends saw the tag on this tank, and exclaimed: "You paid 60 bucks for a wife beater?!?"  I didn't have a good comeback for it and mumbled something about it being seamless, only to get more outraged looks.  So it got me thinking, do I have Lulu goggles on for this one???  I took a picture of this tank on me, along side my ribbed Zenana Outfitters tank that I got for $4 and they do look pretty darn similar...

Does one look like it should cost $54 (or almost 15x) more than the other???  Lol...

Ok, I'm kind of putting things in perspective and may not keep it after all...

  1. Does the cheap one have a built in bra? Does it keep its shape?

    1. Haha no it doesn't come with a built in bra. But it does retain shape pretty well since it is cotton/elastane. Of course I'm not saying that it is superior to the Lulu tank, but considering the price difference, it just might come on top.

  2. That train of thought was exactly the reason I passed on this tank. I do love the fabric and the fit but in the end it just looked too much like any ribbed racerback you can get for $10-15 (or $4 in your case, lol). Great looking tank but I prefer to spend $66 (incl. tax) on tanks that have a slightly more distinct look (really liking the ta ta toppers these days...)

    1. I like the Ta Ta Topper too. I do really like the plum tank in the ribbed style and since I don't have any other tanks in that color, I am keeping it. I also want to see the angel wing one in person and try it on to see if that one is worth keeping.

  3. I think we all have Lulu goggles on. Although I must admit I do love most of their stuff and have amassed quite a collection.

You're looking good girl! You should enter a figure competition, you would do very well.
The will power you must have...I used to have it. Trying to get it back.

    Love your blog.

    1. You are right about the goggles! Hehe... I have quite a few things myself... and I've been told they all look the same... lol

Thank you! But I think I'm way too scared to enter something like that lol. I think it's awesome that people can look so amazing though! It is hard work for sure. But I actually like training. I think once I get used to it, I actually feel weird NOT going. The food part is hard though!! Esp during those days that you just feel like having a whole pizza to yourself! :)

  4. I hate being shamed by people, esp when they say "you paid $xx for THAT?!" That said, I think your friend really did put it in perspective for me as I have been considering it since so many people love it.

    1. Yep... I have heard these types of comments before, but for some reason this one really resonated with me lol...

  5. I got the plum one and I love it. For me it is all about performance. It doesn't ride up, it has built in cups, it wicks away sweat, it doesn't stink! Well worth it for me for yoga, running and street wear!

    1. I wore my plum one yesterday. It actually rode up a couple times during weights, but I was moving around a lot. It didn't move during cardio though. It is super comfy and nice, I agree! I also like that it can double up as a workout tank or a casual tank. I can justify keeping one. Not sure about 2 though! Haha.

    2. I definitely have Lulu goggles! If it comes in more fun colors I am in trouble! Think of it this way, you work very very hard so you deserve the splurge!

  6. Sometimes lululemons prices seem ridiculous but when they get things right I think the stuff is worth it.

Like skinny will pants. Seems silly they are $98 but they look great, the fabric feels so soft, the waist is perfect when I do a barre class, and no sweat marks when I work out. I have other pants that were cheaper, but they always slide around when I workout, the fabric isn't as comfy, and they aren't as flattering. Even though they were cheaper the money seems like more of a waste since I don't get as much use out of them.

    1. Definitely... I think it's super important to have workout gear that make you feel good and are not a nuisance during workouts. That's why I don't mind paying some premium for them! But there is definitely a limit where it just becomes overpriced. Lulu is getting dangerously close to the ceiling for some of their stuff...

    2. Some stuff doesn't seem worth it...The last 2 swiftly items I bought had pulls on the fabric after the second wearing so I am definitely off of those-which is too bad, some of my old swiftlys are among my favorites.

Lululemon is tough for me. The stuff I love, I really love but sometimes they just miss. I also feel like they price things as high as they think they can get away with rather than by features. A non-technical lounging shirt will cost the same as a running shirt with technical fabric. Other brands don't seem to do that or at least not as much.

  7. I think if you're buying the tank just for the way it looks, the $54 price tag is ridiculous. But, a big part of the price tag is getting a well-made, functional piece that makes workouts more comfortable. For YEARS I refused to buy pricey workout clothes, but once I gave in I couldn't go back. You don't even notice how uncomfortable the cheap stuff is until you wear something designed to wick sweat and let you move. And even though it only seems justified to buy the fancier Lulu designs because they stand out, sometimes it's nice just to have something simple. It's like sorbet in the middle of a meal. We all need palate cleansers! I wouldn't return it unless you feel like you really wouldn't wear it. But if it will become a staple, it's worth it!!

    1. I think my thinking with this tank is that it kind of borders a nice functional staple piece, and a plain old boring piece lol. It looks so similar to my $4 tank and my $4 tank feels pretty good too! Hahaha... I wouldn't wear it to work out though. I have soooo many other workout tanks that seem more memorable...

  8. Your post is so timely for me since I also bought both colors but have WAY overspent on lulu last month so was evaluating today and thinking same exact thing!!! Plus I wondered if it would ride up since its kind of tight on bottom on me. Thx for helping me see the lulu light!!! Lol

    1. Haha that's funny! Sometimes I try to put things in perspective and think I must be on crazy pills for spending so much money on workout stuff! It does make me happy though lol. I use them all the time too!! :)

  9. Hi! I just found your blog. I love lulu also and have a few things, but the prices are what scare me away! (for now at least, since im still a student...) my thoughts on lulu stuff? if it makes you feel confident and comfortable and inspires you to workout, then get it! did you decide to keep the tank?

    1. I haven't decided yet! It's still got the tags on... I might go to the store some time and see if there are things I rather have. I agree, if you feel great in your clothes, it motivates you to go workout! :)

  10. I love the tank on you, I personally think its worth it. You need to factor in resale value too with Lululemon, I think this tank will have good resale, its been very popular.

  11. I agree you could get a similar looking tank without a built in bra for cheaper, but I've been looking for tanks with built in bras so I can wear them sometimes in summer as well as to low-impact xercise. I can't wear the Power Ys as they cut in quite a bit and give me hideous armpit fat. The Ebb to Street tanks are perfect for my purposes.
