Exactly A Month Till Wedding & No DJ!

A coworker reminded me today that I'm getting married exactly a month from today - crazy!!!  I really can't believe how fast time has gone by this year.  I say this every year though.  So most of the stuff is done for the wedding, or will be soon.  We just need to finalize the decorations and the schedule for the day of.  But one kind of major thing we are still missing is a DJ!  We might have dropped the ball on this one, because now it seems everyone has been booked already.  I guess it's not something that is an absolute must have, as we can just add lots of songs to an ipod and play them ourselves.  But we kind of need someone to direct the night, which I believe DJs usually do.  What to do, what to do?  Worst comes worst, I think I will make one of my friends do it!  But anyone have any other ideas?  I'd love to hear it!

I also need to figure out what to play as the wedding party is walking down the aisle.  And if we don't have a DJ, who is going to change the music for when the procession begins, stop the music during the ceremony, and start again after the kiss?  Argh, I really hope I don't blow this one.  =/

  1. I went to my boyfriend's sister's wedding and to save costs they made a wedding playlist for the ceremony on an iPod hooked up to a speaker system and one friend handled that entirely using certain cues. For the reception, my boyfriend and the MC handled all of the music on an iPad and it worked out wonderfully. Don't stress about the DJ, I am sure your wedding will be fantastic with or without one :)

  3. First, I want to say that I love reading your blog! Thank you for your honesty, especially in product reviews.

Secondly, I want you to know that I am an event coordinator by profession. Mostly, I deal with weddings (twice a weekend) with occasional corporate events, bar/bat mitzvah, etc. May I give you a piece of advice: Please, please use a professional vendor for your DJ!

I have a few friends whom were in your position and they each admitted they didn't see the need for a professional DJ until their wedding.

From experience, it's worth the extra bucks for somebody to help guide your event... if you use a friend, it can be tricky: do they sit down for dinner and disregard the music (use a 'playlist') for that period? Do you let them drink alcohol (don't let them do this. Trust me.)? Do they maybe come unprepared with not enough sound equipment, extension cords, etc? Also, I can guarantee that a friend will feel a bit stressed & nervous, perhaps taking away from their enjoyment of your wedding day.

As far as the down the aisle stuff, if your cocktail / dinner reception is in a different place than the ceremony, ask the DJ to bring 2 set-ups, he will bring a large one for dancing and an amp/ipod for the ceremony.

I KNOW you will have the most beautiful wedding! Please do not hesitate to reply or email: AllisonMarieDoyle@gmail.com with any questions about the flow of your event, I would love to help!

    Best,
    Allison

  4. @Fashionable Chemist: Wow that sounds awesome! I don't know if any of my friends are that responsible! Shoot... hmmm maybe my man of honor will do it... but it'd be hard to ask any guest to do it especially during the ceremony when they are supposed to be sitting down. So that's what I'm most concerned about now.

@Anon: I checked it and looks like that deal is no longer available. =(

@Allison, you are scaring me! Hahaha... I just don't know how to get a DJ when there is literally no one available for that day. =/ Maybe I do have to consult your expertise!

  5. Thanks for the several tips shared on this weblog. I have seen that many insurance carriers offer shoppers generous savings if they favor to insure a couple of cars together. A significant quantity of households have got several cars or trucks these days, particularly those with older teenage kids still living at home, as well as savings upon policies may soon begin. So it is good to look for a good deal. chicago wedding dj
