DEXTER Season Premier Tonight!

I'm so excited about the Dexter season premier!  It makes my True Blood withdrawal just a little easier to bear!

I swear I have Showtime just for this show.  Well maybe Californication too which I find hilarious.  But yeah, I've been waiting anxiously to see what they have cooking up for us this season!

(Spoiler alert if you haven't seen the last season!!!)

Especially since how they ended the last season with Dexter's wife being murdered.  Yikes!  I heard that the actress that plays his wife is returning this season though.  But I did see her as the lead actress on the new ABC show, Superhero Family or something?  So, one can deduce she doesn't have much air time on Dexter.  Who knows though, Dexter's dad who has been dead ever since the first episode, has been in pretty much every episode anyways.

So I can't wait to see what happens tonight!  This is one of my favorite shows.  I never thought I would like a show about a serial killer when I first heard about it, but I love the smart and witty writing, especially Dexter's dialogues with himself.  He cracks me up!  It's interesting to be kind of inside the mind of a serial killer.  I do find his sister's character annoying though, but I put up with her because the rest of the show is so good!  Can't believe they are married in real life.  Gross.  Lol.

Ahhh I'm so glad I have DirecTV so I can watch it at East Coast time.  =)

Covert Affairs

I just watched the first episode of this new show on USA called Covert Affairs about a new CIA agent trainee and her double life.

It's cute!  I don't think it's a serious drama that will win many awards or anything.  But it's lighthearted and entertaining.  Kind of like the show Leverage which I'm also a fan of.  I like the lead actress in Covert Affairs, Piper Perabo.  The last thing I remember seeing her in was that Coyote Ugly movie years ago.  Back then I was still in high school!  I think the movie was a hit, but then she kind of fell off the grid.  I also like the guy that plays her blind partner in crime in this show.  I don't know his name, but I know he was in Ugly Betty and played Betty's nerdy accountant boyfriend Henry.  I always thought he was so cute in a nerdy way!

The reason I really like this show though is because it totally rekindled my desire to work for the CIA!  Though if I was really serious about it I probably shouldn't be blogging about it.  I think when they do background check on you, they really look into EVERYTHING you've ever done in your life.  Like how many ants you've killed and how many times you cheated on your test in school, stuff like that that you think no one would ever be able to find out!  But I really looked into working for the CIA some time last year!  They want people from all walks of life.  Having a finance/economic background is actually a pretty good way to get in, as well as being able to speak different languages.  Plus I've had some pretty extensive travel experience to many different countries in my day and can adjust pretty fast.  I actually fit most of their list of an ideal candidate.  And no one in their right mind would ever think that I would be a spy!!  I think I normally come off as pretty innocent and unsuspecting.  But I could hold a huge secret!  I think it would be fun to act like someone else, but be hard to live a double life though.  I'd imagine it would get rather confusing after a while to keep the lies straight!

The CIA training is pretty extensive and lasts a year if I remember correctly.  Maybe more?  For the training, they group you by your age (kinda weird), and there is a cap!  So yeah, you snooze and you may lose the chance to become a CIA agent forever.  After the training, I guess you have different directions to go, such as staying mostly in the US, or spending a lot of time abroad.  I'm sure some end up doing more of a desk job, and some more field work.  The pay was ok, nothing spectacular or to die for, but more than many other types of jobs out there, especially at the beginning of your career.  But I figured if I was really in the CIA, I probably wouldn't have any chance to go spend money anyway because I'd be doing some cool spy stuff!  Hehehe... but I do realize that it's probably not at all as glamorous as it sounds.  And there are many different divisions within the agency so not everyone is a spy... bleh.

Well, I may have to let my CIA agent dreams die since I don't see myself moving to DC any time soon and I ain't getting any younger.  So for now I can only fantasize about it!  But hey who knows what the future holds.  A few years ago, I would have never imagined that I'd be where I am today!  Things definitely can change, and change fast.

Can't Wait For TRUE BLOOD Premiere!!!

I'm sooo excited that one of my favorite shows True Blood is premiering tonight!  I'm not really into the whole "obsession with vampires" phenomenon going on as of late, but I am a huge fan of this show.  It's kind of like my love for Harry Potter, I'm just really amazed at the fantasy world these authors created.  I love watching / reading about the supernatural beings, magic, good and evil, etc.  The story lines also really keep me on the edge of my seat! I guess I just like things that are way outside of my world!

True Blood premiers at 8:45 pm EST tonight - there will be a 15 minute pre-show before the actual premier episode.  But I have DirecTV so I will be able to watch it at 5:45 PST which is in an hour!!!  In anticipation of the show, I am wearing my Merlotte's T-shirt that I bought when I went to the HBO store in NYC late last year!

It's actually a really comfortable shirt.  I love how soft it is, and it's really a very flattering fit and length.  This was the only shirt I liked from the store.  The other ones had very blatant writings on them, like "Fangbanger", or "Team Eric", or "Fangtasia", with very graphic bloody prints.  I like that this shirt is very subtle, matches Sookie's shirt exactly and can only be recognized by true fans of the show!  I even considered wearing it on Halloween with some black shorts and tennis shoes.  Super easy and comfy.  They even sell Sookie's apron too at the HBO store which would make it a complete outfit.  Hehe.

I also got my boyfriend the Bon Temps Football t-shirt which I will make him wear for the show tonight too.  I do realize that kind of makes us brother and sister, but whatevs!  We gotta get in the spirit!

I also really like this shirt for the subtle message as well.  He actually wears it all the time.  The one I got him is a little different from the one pictured above.  The "True Blood" logo is on the bottom right of the shirt near the hem, not like the one pictured that has it right under the writing on the front.  Otherwise it's the same.  I like his better.  It really looks like a vintage high school football shirt.  Surprisingly not that many people have realized that it's Jason's shirt from the show, maybe that's why they have moved the "True Blood" to the front.

Now I just wish I had some True Blood to drink!  I guess they taste like orange soda or something.  They were out at the store when I was there.

I have read all the Sookie Stackhouse books so I know who took Bill at the end of season 2.  But I won't spoil it for anyone.  Besides, they could have put some twist in the show and made it a different person.  So far they already have some characters that the book doesn't have, and vice versa.  But really, who cares, I'm just giddy with excitement right now counting down to the season premiere!

The Biggest Loser Finale

I'm a big fan of the show The Biggest Loser.  It's so inspiring and so cool to see the changes these people make.  I'm always amazed at the before and after photos - obviously they lose a lot of weight all over their body, but their faces sometimes look soooo different!

This season's winner Michael was over 500 lbs - the biggest contestant they ever had, and lost about 50% of his weight.  He still has some ways to go but he looks so great!  I can't wait to see the pics after he achieves his goal weight.  But, Koli, who also made it to the final 4, and didn't make it to the final 3 because the viewers voted for Daris instead, lost 53% of his starting weight!!!  He won the at home prize, but if the viewers voted for him to be in the final 3, then he would have won the whole thing!!  Wow... I can only imagine how he feels knowing he lost more overall than the actual winner or anyone else.  If he had made it to the final 3, he would have won the whole thing!  The funny thing is, he was so focused on getting there that he sabotaged himself in a way and didn't lose enough weight to guarantee himself a spot in the final 3.  Funny how that works sometimes - when you want something so bad and stress out about it, it just doesn't happen.  That's life I guess.  Well, at least he got $100k.

I actually really liked this season because most of the contestants focused on losing weight and becoming healthy instead of game playing like they usually do, especially towards the end.  They had an opportunity to get rid of Michael at one point but they voted for him to stay.  I think that's what it should be all about.  Changing lives and being an inspiration to others.

I do wish though that the show would focus more on the nutrition part.  I know they do talk about that at times, and they have those silly product placements that are sooo cheesy and fake.  But I wish I could see exactly what the nutritionist prescribes each contestant.  I mean like for each meal and snack the exact food they are eating including how they are cooked, so I can break down the protein/carb/fat ratio and count the calories.  I know I always think of each of my meals and snacks in terms of that ratio (I'm a weirdo), and I like to have 50% of my calories from protein, 30% from carb (low GI carb), and 20% from fat (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated).  So I do take some time planning my food.  I also would like to know roughly how much fat, sugar, sodium, fiber, calcium, potassium, etc. etc. they consume daily.  But I guess that would make a very boring TV show for most people!!

I remember hearing Bob say to a female contestant one time to get her 1200 calories in daily.  That's not very many calories for an over weight person who works out 8 hours a day or whatever.  They must be starving!  I thought they would have given them at least 1400 or 1500 calories.  Maybe 1800 to 2000 for the men.  That's still a 2-3 time decrease from what they used to be eating at home I'm sure.  And obviously I would assume that they are eating healthy fresh ingredients that do not raise their blood sugar level.  I just wish I could find out exactly what!!  I feel like most weight loss shows keep nutrition a secret.  They tell you a little bit about it, usually stuff that we've all heard before, but not nearly enough for you to understand in more depth or replicate it.

My nutritionist always says it's about 90% food and 10% work out, which I totally agree with because no matter how hard I work out, if my nutrition is off then I won't see any difference.  And vice versa, if my nutrition is on, I don't even have to work out to see results.  Working out would just serve as a catapult.  Obviously the work out parts are way more interesting on TV, especially with Jillian yelling at your face, and I do enjoy watching the different exercises that they do and get ideas from them.

Anyway, this one trainer I trained with once (who told me that out of all the people he's trained, I was in the best shape when doing the first session with him!) is supposedly being considered as a trainer for the Biggest Loser so maybe we will be expecting more trainers in the future from the show.  I hope he makes it because he was very good, but if not, it will still be interesting to see different trainers on the show.  I like Bob and Jillian, but I'm surprised they haven't had others come on already.  So we'll see!

I feel bad for the people that haven't lost much weight, especially the ones that got kicked off earlier on.  You can just tell that some people are not "on" mentally.  How you can not flip on the mental switch when you've made it to the show out of thousands of applicants is beyond me.  And what about that season 3 winner who gained all his weight back???  OMG so crazy... I can't imagine letting yourself get back to that after working so hard to lose it.  And having to do it again.  Wow something funky must be going on with that guy inside his head.  Also, when they've showed other older contestants, they seemed to have gained some weight back too, but they've mostly stayed within reason.

My friend (who is like a size 000000 but thinks she's fat) who went to a consultation with a plastic surgeon said that according to him, the number of fat cells cannot change (it's genetic) unless with lipo, but they can shrink or expand, which is what happens when people lose or gain weight.  So it's way easier to gain the weight back if you have been overweight before, since the fat cells are already there, just shrunken, so all they have to do is expand again.  I don't know if this is true or the plastic surgeon trying to scare my friend and get business (is that illegal though?), but I guess it does make sense.  Well anyway, I know I'm not genetically gifted with extra low count of fat cells, so I have to always eat things that don't spike up my blood sugar level (which triggers the body to start storing fat) and keep my metabolism going.  I guess I try to eat as if I'm a diabetic!  It's hard though - other than the obviously desserts and pastries, I have to watch out for other simple, refined carbs too - like bagels which I love!  My grandpa's had diabetes since his 20s (he's in his 80s now), and I can't imagine how much self control it takes to maintain that disease!

Ziva from NCIS

I love the show NCIS on CBS.  I don't normally like crime shows, but it's very well written and has a great cast.  Each character has a uniqueness that immediately captures your attention.

So I was grabbing a quick bite last night at Coral Tree Cafe, and in walks Cote de Pablo, the actress that plays Ziva David on the show.

She's so pretty!  I like her character on NCIS a lot, and I think she is a good actress.  She's pretty without trying to be.  It looks like she barely wears any makeup, so I guess she's a natural beauty!  She looked exactly the same in person.  Even the clothes she wore was very similar to her character's wardrobe from the show, since Coral Tree is a very casual place.  We made eye contact as soon as she sat down lol.  I was excited.  I was also looking around to see if anyone else recognized her.  Didn't look like it.  I guess you wouldn't know her face if you have never watched the show.  Even though it's supposedly the #1 show on television!

This is my second NCIS actor sighting in a month!  I saw Mark Harmon who plays Agent Gibbs on the show at SugarFish about a month ago, which is pretty much diagonally across the street from Coral Tree.  So I guess they both live in Brentwood or nearby!  Love Brentwood for the numerous celebrity sightings.  My coworker saw Arnold Schwarzenegger at Coral Tree once, how exciting!  I would have loved to see him... hehe.

I also would love to see the rest of the NCIS crew too!  Like Tony, and Mcgee, and Abby!  Come on, keep up the once a month record!

Conan O'Brien Show

I watched Conan O'Brien's last show and it was so sad!  I cried.  Yes I did.  Well I cry at everything, so that was no shocker.  But I have loved Conan forever now.  I feel like he's been a part of my growing up.  Seriously, who would watch Jay Leno over Conan?  Oh yeah... nevermind.  I just don't get those people.  What do they see in Jay Leno???  He is not funny, and he just looks like an asshole.  I saw him driving on the 405 once when I was on my way to Warner Bros lot, and trust me, he's an ass.  I do judge people who like Leno (and Ryan Seacreast) and try to stay far away from them.  We are not the same breed.  I was very disappointed to find out recently that one of my good friends likes both of them.  I had to reconsider our friendship.

Ok back on track now... Conan, on the other hand, seems like a genuinely nice guy.  He's quirky, and I can see how some people might not get his humor (that's their problem).  But at least he is original, and not just reading a script from his writers.  He definitely really cares about his crew since most of them have been with his show forever and he always shows them on air in different episodes.  He also made sure that NBC included them in their settlement contracts which is very nice of him.  Just shows his character.  He even picked the best neighborhood in LA to live in - Brentwood, also my hood.  So we are practically neighbors!

While watching his last show I was sad because since he moved to LA, I've watched like 2 shows only.  I used to record his show and watch them everyday, but I stopped for reasons I can't remember, probably because it's a lot of commitment to watch everyday.  But I should've been a better fan and watched it more!  Now it's too late.  =(

Like Conan said in his final statement, nobody should feel sorry for him because he's one of the luckiest people.  I don't feel sorry for him per se, since he has been around for 20 years and is very well off.  He even got $40 million for being fired from NBC.  How many people can say that??  I just feel like it's somewhat a turn of an era.  It's like saying goodbye to an old friend.  It's just sad.  I know it's very odd.  The whole situation just reminds me of how things can change.  Maybe this is a sign of old age???  Only old people get nolstalgic right??  Oh no!

True Blood & Sookie Stackhouse Series

The HBO show True Blood has to be my favorite show on TV right now.  I just love it!  I even went to the HBO store in NYC last September and bought myself a Merlot's t-shirt like the one Sookie wears in the show!  I also got my boyfriend a Bon Temps Football shirt like Jason's.  It doesn't look like a cheesy t-shirt, and he wears it a lot, but nobody ever registered it as a True Blood shirt.  Sad.  I guess our friends aren't real True Blood fans!  I wanted to get the True Blood drinks too, but they were out of stock.  =(

I am anxiously awaiting the 3rd season.  I never thought that I would be into a vampire show, since there are so many shows and movies out there right now about vampires.  Like that stupid Twilight series.  Ugh, I don't understand why anybody past the age of 13 would like it, but apparently some of my facebook "friends" love it, as per their status updates.  I seriously thought about deleting them from my friends list after I saw their obsessive, multiple status about it.  But I hid their feeds instead.  Hmmm... anyway, so how I got into True Blood is I accidentally saw one of the True Blood episodes on HBO one night when I was channel surfing, and it just caught my attention right away!  This was actually a really good show!  Then I had to go and find the earlier episodes.  I couldn't stop watching them!  They have really good cliff hangers at the end of each episode.  Then of course when I got all caught up, I had to wait for the new episode to air every week.  And then second season was over!  =(

I like True Blood obviously for the great acting, story line, and good writing.  But I really like how it's aimed at adults, and not teenagers like Harry Potter or Twilight.  Don't get me wrong, I love Harry Potter, I read all the books and watched all the movies.  But it was still aimed at teenagers to begin with, though it got much darker later on.  Anyways, since I was waiting around for the 3rd season of True Blood to start, I figured I would seek out the Sookie Stackhouse books to try to get over my withdrawal.

I bought the box set from Barnes & Noble and started reading them right away.  They are really fast and easy reads.  Each book is about 300 pages or so, and I can finish one in a day or two.  The writing style of Charlaine Harris, the author, seems to be aimed more at teens though.  I don't think she has particularly good writing skills, but her plots are creative, and I never got bored.  They are definitely entertaining to read.  They are also different from other fantasy type of books.  While she writes a lot about different types of supernatural beings, the setting is still in today's modern world with normal human beings that live like you and I everyday, only with secret supernatural beings (and not so secret vampires) among them.  It's definitely an interesting concept.  I do wonder if there are other things out there that we don't know about??

The first two seasons of True Blood are loosely based on the first two books of the series, so I definitely picked up on the similarities.  But there are also some distinct differences.  For example, Tara and Lafeyette are not big characters at all in the books but huge characters in the show.  Jason is never addicted to drinking vampire blood in the books either.  The books do mention the maned, but only a little bit.  Not nearly as drawn out a story line as the show made it out to be.  That was the most annoying part about the show in my opinion.  That character was just annoying and pointless in the show.  They focused way too much on her, I don't know, maybe they will lead to something in later seasons.  Also, Bill is not nearly as likable in the books as the show (Eric is WAY more likable!), and Sookie is kind of a slut in the books!  Hahaha... I mean I still like her character, but she does get around.  The show seem to be drifting further and further away from the books though.  So I could see 3rd and later seasons becoming way different.  Maybe they will keep Sookie and Bill together forever in the show, who knows?  But that would be boring and I hope they don't do that.

Well the downside about reading all the books is that I sort of know what is going to happen in later seasons so that kind of takes some of the suspense away.  Like I pretty much know who took Bill at the end of season two, but of course I won't ruin it for everyone else who hasn't read the books!  Also, the writers of True Blood could make it completely different anyways.  So I'm still excited to watch season three.  I hope knowing what happens in the books won't make me confuse the two plots of the books vs. show together!

Celebrity Apprentice Love!

I know that the Celebrity Apprentice rating keeps dropping every year, and I do believe I am one of a few devoted viewers that are left.  It is very cheesey, but, I just really can't help but love the show!!  The cast is always so random and ridiculous, and there is always someone that I love or hate!  I actually hated both the previous seasons winners - Piers Morgan (How could he have beat Trace Adkins!!) and Joan Rivers (What a bitch!  I didn't care for Annie either, but compared to Joan Rivers, she was a saint!).

But the show is truly entertaining.  I don't know what it is, I don't even care for the Donald that much.  I actually like his daughter Ivanka better.  But something keeps me tuned in every season!  The 3rd season cast has been announced, and it sounds like another AMAZING season to come!  Yesssss!!!

Celebrity Apprentice 3 FULL Cast: Met and Yankees star Darryl Strawberry, ex-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Sinbad and old pop star Cyndi Lauper, Sharon Osbourne (”America’s Got Talent“) and Bret Michaels (”Rock of Love“), actress Holly Robinson Peete, funny lady Carol Leifer, wrestlers Bill Goldberg and Maria Kanellis, Australian celebrity chef Curtis Stone and Olympic gold-medal swimmer Summer Sanders. The group of 14 contestants is closed with the inclusion of Selita Ebanks and Michael Johnson.
