Zella Stripey Mèlange Hoodie

I bought this super cute Zella Stripey Melange Hoodie from Nordstrom's anniversary sale.  Just received it today, and I love it!  Kind of wish I had bought it in another color too, but now all the size S are sold out.

It is a pretty thin material (polyester and spandex) and a nice lightweight hoodie, though not as soft as I thought it might be.  It's got thumb holes that look eerily reminiscent of Lululemon running tops, with a kind of bunched look.  The length is nice and long with a wide band on the bottom.  Cute little kangaroo pocket, and a large drapey hood.  As soon as I put it on, I knew it was a winner.  Even my husband passed by and said "that's really cute".

Here are some detailed shots from Nordstrom's website.  The back and close ups are only in the green color, which looks lovely as well.

So other than white and green, it also comes in a nice sky blue, violet, orange, and black.  I debated long and hard which color to get.  Eventually went with white because 1) I have a the teal zeal Lululemon Inspire Pullover which is kind of the same shade of green, 2) the snorkel blue Ambition pullover in the same shade of blue, 3) the very violet Post Run Pullover in the same shade of violet, 4) I'm not an orange person, and 5) black is too... black... for me.  I know those 3 pullovers are different styles, but they pretty much all serve the same purpose to me - mostly as to/from the gym kind of tops (with the occasional exception of using them as running tops but it is usually too hot in So Cal for them).  I can definitely wear the white one to throw over stuff and it is nice and versatile, albeit may be a little boring.  But can't really go wrong either.

Anyway, so this top is now on sale for only $37, down from $58.  $58 is actually not a bad price (compared to Lululemon prices) but of course $37 is better!  I think size S in this fits nicely - not too loose or tight.  I probably could also wear size XS for a more fitted look like how they fit the models, but I prefer it this way.  I really like Zella stuff, if their ebay resale value was as good as Lululemon, I would be buying a lot more from them.  But I like buying Lulu knowing that if I get tired of it, I can re-sell and recoup a nice chunk of cash back to invest in new pieces.  I'd say the recycling aspect is a large part of why I spend a lot of money on Lulu.  But lately I've been not so inspired by their product designs or quality, so I'm looking elsewhere.

  1. Yay! This post made my day! I bought the same pullover in white in a size small and am SO happy to see how incredibly awesome it looks on you (I wear a size 4 in lulu tops as well). Thank you for mentioning Zella workout wear on your blog. As an avid lulu buyer who's also been let down by the recent quality issues and weird designs (harem/mc pants anyone? ugh!), discovering Zella has been a welcome surprise. Love the top notch service and return policy at Nordstrom's too.

    1. Yes, Nordstrom's customer service is second to none. It makes me feel better shopping at a place knowing if I run into any problems, they will stand behind their products.

  2. Don't worry that pullover is a zella staple. They will get more colors in. I purchased the same pullover last year in a pinkish/flash color. I hardly ever wear it since it's so light weight, but it looks very flattering on. I think mine bagged out slightly, though.

  3. Opps, I bought a different version, a lighter weight version that isn't on sale. Mine is cotton which is why it bagged out a little. It's their Breezy style.

    1. Ahh... hopefully it comes in more fun colors in the future because I wouldn't mind grabbing another one!

  4. I bought the same top in black and violet! it's so cute - I couldn't decide between small and medium - I'm usually a 6 in tops at lulu. I've also recently discovered Zella and am really liking it. It's cheaper and the return policy and customer service in general at Nordstrom is just amazing. I love that they will order sizes from other stores as well and ship for free. While I love Lulu products, I am getting kind of sick of the "better buy it now or else" mentality. Makes me feel unappreciated as a customer which I don't like when I am spending so much! I don't know if you saw the charcoal melange crops on anniversary sale for 31.90 but I love them! alot like the wunder unders, kind of a denim like pattern and reversible. also loved their shorts and I have a hard time with lulu shorts - speeds are too short for me and turbos stick out funny. Only downside is they don't have a zipper pocket. As always - thanks for sharing your shopping purchases - it's fun to see what new stuff you have and get your feedback!

    1. It's funny you say that about the "you snooze you lose" mentality with Lululemon. I feel like the managers at Lulu are just like: "Haha you suckas!!!!"... LOL! I know I would be. Sometimes I get tired of it and I say forget it, not like I really NEED any of that stuff anyway at this point. But other times it is still hard to not make the instant purchase. I guess that does make me a sucker. =)

    2. Don't worry - I'm still a major sucker too!!! Can't help it - they do still have such cute workout gear, for better or worse :). Just been refreshing shopping at Nordstrom and loving the anniversary sale prices!!

  5. There is some Zella stuff that I like more than its comparable Lulu designs. Sometimes the material is softer. Even though the resale value isn't as good as Lulu, the lower price point (particularly if you find it on sale) makes it a good way to add variety to my workout wardrobe.

    1. Yeah, I totally agree. I had to return my last batch of Zella tanks I bought because I got them all in a size too big. But now that I know my size there, I will definitely keep an eye out. They have so many cute designs! I like many of them better than Lululemon tanks actually. And they do go on sale too, even from the lower starting price point!
