Tahari ASL Marcelina Pencil Skirt

I used to own quite a few work skirts and dresses from Tahari ASL, but haven't bought any in a long time!  Well, I saw a super cute skirt on Gilt so I had to buy it.  It is the Marcelina Pencil Skirt, for $59.

I like the contrasting materials on this skirt, and I've always been a fan of the tweed look.  I got this skirt in size 2, which I thought was going to be a perfect fit.  However, it is on the tight side.  Maybe my butt is bigger now (from all my glute workouts!) than before when I used to buy a lot from this brand.  But I feel it is a bit too tight to be comfortable in.  On top of that, the material is thinner than I thought it would be.  So it does not hide any flaws lol.  When you walk around, it creates these creases in the front.  You know, like sometimes you sit for too long in a wrinkly material and the wrinkles stay after you stand up?  I am really not a fan of that look.

I do like the style a lot though!  So I ordered the size 4 as well and will compare both when it arrives, and return one.  I also prefer a larger size in the waist because I tuck blouses into my work skirts a lot.

Here you can tell that it's very figure hugging, I feel like every time I stand up, I'd have to pull it down and straighten out the creases.

And here's the material up close:

So, we'll see how the size 4 fits.  I hope one of them works!!

By the way, I also got Spanx for the first time just to see what the buzz is all about lol.  I got this Hide & Sleep Hi-Rise Panty, in nude, since Gilt has it for only $24.

I got this in size S.  Obviously not going to model this lol.  But I gotta say that I don't know what you would use this for??  Maybe I got the wrong style/size.  But it does nothing for me.  I thought it was going to be a lot tighter fitting in the waist, like corset style.  Maybe make the waist an inch smaller??  But it feels very stretchy on.  So it kind of feels like having nothing at all, and I don't really understand the point lol.  Oh well, not a big loss.  Maybe I'll try out another style from Spanx later!

  1. I'd say that if the Spanx feels like having nothing on, it's too big for you. ..or the material is too stretchy. I believe it's supposed to create compression and smooth out any flaws. ..if you have any :)

    1. Lol... that's what I figured! This one is size S though, and it looks tiny when I hold it up to look at it. But the fabric is just super stretchy. Oh well, maybe I'll try a different style later! =)

  3. Is your "If you're lucky top" the newer version that is online right now or is it last year's version with the swim fabric? It's hard to tell from the pics, but last year's version the back opening was trimmed out in grey (in case you're not sure). The reason I ask is because some people are saying that the new version is shorter than last year's version. But, I like the length of this one on you. Also, did you get a size 4 or 6?

    1. I think I have the new version. The tag says If You're Lucky LS II. And there's no grey trimming. Although I got it on ebay from Singapore before I even knew there were 2 versions lol. I tried on the white one from the first go and hated how the fabric was laying on me. But this one looks and feels great! You should get it. I got size 4. Don't feel it's too short at all, although the fabric is slippery so it rides up a bit as you move. Not bad though.
