Diane von Furstenberg Davina Floral Print Shift Dress in Mural Roses

I got this Diane von Furstenberg Davina Floral Print Shift Dress in Mural Roses from Last Call, which is basically the Neiman Marcus outlet store.  I was kind of unsure of this dress, but I thought I'd give it a shot and I actually really like it!  It's a very romantic, whimsical kind of dress.  I don't have anything quite like it in my closet.

When I first saw this dress, I thought wow this could either be kind of cool or a complete disaster depending on how it fits.  I'm not usually a floral print person at all, but this dress somehow drew me in!  I actually got it in both size 4 and size 6 so I could compare.  They are having 30% off sale right now, so it was $180 instead of $259, which was already the discounted price off of the original price of $365.  Sooo basically half off from original price.

The size 4 and size 6 are actually not very different at all.  Size 6 is has slightly more material falling down from the waist, and the elastic waistband is about an inch longer.  But I thought they fit very similarly and I could really go either way.  In the end though, I decided to keep the size 4 instead of size 6 because size 6 had a little bit too much material on the back and looked a bit bulkier.  I also prefer the slightly tighter fitting waistband of the size 4.  But I was really being very picky.  If I didn't have the 4, I would have happily kept the 6.  Oh but also the print placement of the size 6 I got had a flower right on the left boob which was a little weird to look at.  Once you notice that, it's all you can see.

In person, I thought the print was a bit more subtle than the pictures online, which I like even better.  It's really not that obvious that this is a floral print.  Here's the size 4:

And this is the size 6... looks identical other than the floral boob lol:

The sleeves are super different!  They are like straight out of a fairytale...

Back of size 4:

Back of size 6... a bit too much material here I think:

The elasticized belt has snap buttons on the inside to keep it together:

So I think this is a perfect date night dress!  It's made of silk throughout, but there is a nude colored lining so it's not see-through at all other than the unlined sleeves.  The back has a button closure and a keyhole detail.  I don't normally like high necklines but I think it works on this dress.  I'm actually really intrigued by this dress!  The coloring is pretty muted, but I think the style still catches people's eye without being obnoxiously out there.  How fun!  I'm totally going to wear it out to a nice dinner!

  1. Beautiful dress. Good idea keeping the size 4. Once you pointed out the flower placement on the size 6 that's all I could see too haha
    Have a great weekend!

  3. OMG, those sleeves are just so flower power! I had a dress when I was kid that had been handed down to me with sleeves like that. It's one of the few details I like about late sixties, early seventies fashion.

The 4 really looks good on you.
