Birthday Dress... I think?

I ordered a deeply discounted Gold Hawk dress on Gilt last week.  It is sparkly and has floral designs on the bottom.  I thought it might do for a birthday dinner outfit.  My birthday is tomorrow, and it kind of snuck up on me this year!  I'm not feeling like doing anything crazy, so I'm just going to go out to dinner with some friends.  Nothing too fancy!  So I wanted something that is sort of low key but stands out a little at the same time.  This one seemed to fit the bill, and the price was great!  $59!  It says retail was $407.

When I saw this dress, all sizes were sold out but size S.  It was "reserved" for the longest time, and I kept clicking "add to cart" lol.  It worked!  I wasn't sure about sizing, but I figure S would most likely be ok.

Well, it arrived and I think the size S is a tad big.  But it's definitely doable.  It looks quite different on me than it does on the model - I thought it would be a fitted style based on the model photos, but it's actually a loose fit in person.  I think even a size down would have been loose fitting.

It's very pretty though.  It is lined, but it also comes with a completely separate slip that you can wear under the dress.  That's kind of cool because I can also wear the slip under other dresses.

I do like the floral design!

So I think I will most likely wear it tomorrow night.  But when I have some time, I might take it to a tailor to see if it can be taken in just a little.  I think it looks a bit too baggy, especially from the side view.  But I will keep the looser fit of the style because I like how easy it is and it will hide flaws even after birthday cakes.  =)  I'm not sure if it can be altered though - the outer mesh material with the beading on it seems really delicate.  So we'll see.

I picked up another skirt for work at the same time - the By TiMo peached silk skirt in "burend rose ruby".  I thought it was rather different from my other work skirts, and it's good to add some variety and pop of color!

When I first took this skirt out of the box, I was quite confused - the description on Gilt states that it is fully lined.  But in fact, it is not at all.  It's just a very thin silk shell which kind of resembles a nighty!  I actually had to double check that I didn't in fact order a nighty.  But then I put it on with shoes and a top, and it actually looks fine I think.  Even though it's not lined, it is not see through at all.

I also got this skirt in size S.  It fits just about perfectly so I'm happy about that:

There is a back zipper closure:

And after I took these photos, I steamed it - the wrinkles came out very easily since it's silk and very thin.  I actually really like the design of this skirt.  So I will be keeping it!  The price of $189 to $39 is also very tempting.  I just have to make sure that along with being opaque, it won't show the shape of my underwear at any point, since that would be a very bad thing to happen at work.  The color of this skirt is also easier to match than I thought - it will go with any peach or cream colored tops I have.  Also red, white, gray, black, etc.  So lots of choices!  This order is not so bad!  =)

Lorna Jane Quick Step Bra

I went to the Lorna Jane store on Saturday because I wanted to exchange the Ella bra that I got a while ago.  I found the back straps of that bra to be cutting in too much so I hadn't taken the tag off this whole time.  I thought at this point I probably would never wear it and so I decided to exchange for a different one.  I got the Quick Step bra in magnetic blue multi instead, and I like it much much better!  The royal blue is gorgeous, and the back straps are pink.  I like these two colors together.

The dark set of straps are black, I think.  Either black or really really dark navy that it's indistinguishable from black.  :)

The store only had size XS, M and L left in this bra.  I normally prefer size S in Lorna Jane bras.  But the size M in this bra actually fits well!  It's still rather supportive.  So maybe this is a style that fits on the tighter side.  I find the size M to fit very similar to, or even smaller than other LJ bras in size S that I own.

Here it is on me:

The top two straps can be unclasped on the back as well to get a different style.

So I took the tags off this one real fast!  Already wore it this morning to workout in!  This bra has a LJ Black label, which supposedly denotes Lorna Jane Clarkson's favorite items.  I do find that the black label products are usually superior and this one is no exception.

Sunday Funday!

I had a really long week!  I was so bored with work, so I've decided that I'm going to have to take a long vacation soon.  Don't you all feel that way sometimes?  I haven't really taken a trip (other than weekend trips) in probably almost 2 years!  So I think it's about time.

I think my workout routine is a part of the reason why I've stayed put lol.  I always gain tons of weight from vacations for various reasons - eating badly, not drinking enough water, etc.  But, it's worth it.  =)

This week I worked out for 6 days!  I will attack this potential vacation damage preemptively haha.

Monday 7/21 - Rest day!

Tuesday 7/22
What I did:  Lower body weights day.

What I wore:  Lorna Jane Kayla tank with white Lululemon Free To Be bra under it.  Lululemon Empower crop in coal/passion and Nike Free 5.0 TR Fit 4 shoes in fusion pink/atomic mango.

Wednesday 7/23
What I did:  Shoulders & tri, then 30 minutes on the gauntlet.

Zobha Biker Jacket as to and from:

Thursday 7/24
What I did:  Glute/back/bi workout.

What I wore:  I tried to match my new shoes!!  Splits59 Ashby tanks, white one over blossom.  Splits59 Ginger crop in marianna blue.  And Nike Free 5.0 TR Fit 4 shoes in hyper cobalt/bright mango.

I feel like I haven't shared a work outfit in a long time.  But I thought I would this time because of my new shoes.  =)  I wore my Express convertible long sleeve shirt in ivory/black, and Theory Golda 2 Urban skirt.  I must say, this skirt is super flattering and totally worth the money.  The cut is really just superior to my usual cheapo stores!  I wore my new shoes - the B by Brian Atwood Bambola pumps in patent gray.  They are now on sale for only $69 (down from $300!) at 6pm!

This skirt makes my butt looks huge lol:

I love these shoes!  They are super high but pretty comfy because of the platform.  The color is a pearlized tannish/grayish tone.

Friday 7/25
What I did:  Legs again.

Roxy Daybreak LS as to and from:

Saturday 7/26
What I did:  Upper body superset workout, followed by 30 minutes of HIIT on the treadmill.

What I wore:  Under Armour Achieve tank in black, with Lorna Jane Lustre sport bra under it.  Lululemon Track Attack skirt from SeaWheeze last year, in tri check angel wing, and my beloved Nike Free 5.0 TR Fit 4s in hyper bold/bright mango.  I thought it might have been a bit much with the tri check pattern of the skirt and the stripes in the shoes, but they are the same exact colors!  Lol how fun.  I couldn't resist.

I went shopping and then dinner after my workout on Saturday.  I wore a new outfit that I created!  Lol.... well sort've.  I bought this Bella Luxx pleated neck maxi tank dress more than a year ago.  But it hung in my closet the whole time with tag still on because it was too long and I was too lazy to do anything about it - here is what it looked like:

Well... I finally decided to get it shortened!  The hem was unfinished, so I just cut it myself!  I was going to cut only a couple inches so that I could still wear it as a long dress.  But then I decided I liked it better shorter.  Soooo... tadaaaaa!  I like it much better!  I wore it with the Madden Girl Coasterr wedge sandals.

By the way, dinner was so good!  I went to Zengo in Santa Monica again.  This is the end of the DineLA Restaurant week, so they had a great deal for dinner.  For $35, you could order as much as you want!  I love their food - mostly Latin/Asian fusion.  I pretty much stuffed myself.  This is just one dish I took a picture of - guacamole with lots of crab piled on top!  Why have I not thought of this idea before??  It's like the perfect combo!

Sunday 7/27
What I did:  Pilates class where I attempted to work off the damage done from last night!  Hehe.

What I wore:  Lululemon Satya tank with Lululemon Wunder Groove crops.  I wore the French Connection Maria wedge sneakers to and from the pilates studio as well.

Oh and also I wore my new Caslon drape neck cardigan to and from class too.  Such a great purchase!  Can't wait for my other 2 colors to come lol.

Alright everyone, it is time for me to go to bed so I can do this all over again lol.  I hope you all had a great weekend, and goodnight!
